The Polymedia project's goal was to create a world class press center that fully correspond to contemporary tendencies and needs of multimedia system users

Technical solution description

While implementing Main Press Center project for Sochi-2014 Olympic Games Polymedia has equipped with high technology facilities the following premises:

• 4 conference halls named after Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Chekhov

• Conference halls at a hotel for media personnel

• Press room for 500 seats

• Photo reporter room for 100 seats

• Entrance zone of the Main Press Center (MPC)

Products of Panasonic, a World Olympic Partner and longstanding partner of Polymedia, constitute a bulk of audiovisual equipment. For the sake of optimal controlling information visualization tasks Polymedia integrated into MPC its proprietary Polywall software.

The solution facilitates holding press conferences, presentations, video bridges, live broadcast of sport competitions and awarding ceremonies, cultural and promotional events.

As part of the project implementation Polymedia has developed a concept of equipping multifunctional conference halls that provides the Main Press Center with the following functionality:

• Displaying information at a large screen with high image quality

• Comfortable and trouble-free press conferencing, conducting meetings, negotiations and videoconferences

• Sound reinforcement of microphone and audio sources signals

• Integrated control over all the facility using a common intuitive interface

• Documenting all the events held at the Center

• Providing simultaneous interpretation to all event attendees

The building of the Main Media Center offers 4 rooms for press conferences: "Pushkin" for 465 persons, "Tolstoy" – 220 seats, "Dostoevsky" – seats and "Chekhov" – 50 seats. Each rooms is equipped with a whole set of integrated systems – DIS conference system, Panasonic videoconferencing system, BOSE sound system and equipment for simultaneous interpretation: during press conferences, that in the peak period were about 18 per day, translation from eight languages was available for journalists. In addition, for optimal control of visualization Polymedia integrated into Media Center is own unique software – PolyWall.

In the "Pushkin" hall the primary means of information display are two large video walls of super narrow bezel LCD (configuration 3 on 3 modules) and complementary panels, installed on the perimeter. The Presidium is equipped with twelve drawers monitors Element One, which are the best to decide whether a great shot at a press conference: during photographers work monitors are formed without overlapping speakers’ faces. In the "Tolstoy" and "Dostoevsky" halls video walls are installed in less configuration (2 to 2 modules), and the information is duplicated on the built-in speakers’ tablets.

Press room with 500 seats and room for photographers equipped with two video walls in the configuration of 3 on 3 and 2 on 2 modules. The entrance area of the Main Media Center is equipped with a video wall and displays, united into a Digital Signage system for broadcasting schedule of competitions, videos, announcements, news and other multimedia content.

The entire complex of integrated systems is managed by Crestron control system. It is possible to control both from the operator room and with the portable panel.
